The remainder of the first year programme develops core knowledge and skills. The core MBA courses commence from the beginning of August. The students may never have studied finance or strategy, marketing or operations, accounting or human resources before, but our faculty ensures that they are given a thorough grounding in these areas. The Core Courses are designed accordingly laying emphasis in business frameworks and general management concepts, and to help make connections between and across the subjects that the students' study. They are academically rigorous, stimulating and practical. In addition to lectures, students work very closely in small and carefully selected Study Groups, with peers who are internationally diverse and from a wide variety of backgrounds.

CUSTOMIZE: Once the students are familiar with the business fundamentals through core courses, they begin to move on to the specialist elective courses. At this stage, we aim to bring in a wider range of experts to teach these advanced specialist classes. One can choose to broaden one's experiences or hone in on subjects of interest. See MBA 2008 elective courses at www.wbut.ac.in /syllabus/ MBA_ Revised_ Syllabus_ 2008.pdf.

LEARNING BY DOING: All students are required to work on two team consulting projects, the first with smaller organizations for short period of time, the second with renowned organizations based any where in the country. These projects are a fantastic opportunity to gain insight into industries and job functions that are unfamiliar to students, and to think about possible career switches. Coupled with the Individual Project, business plan competitions, internship opportunities, corporate visits and workshops, our Institutes offer one of the most practical MBA programmes in the country.
